Session Outline

9:00 Morning Session


1) Foundation: Introduction of Mindful Leadership

  • Build a framework for mindful leadership
  • Explore the Potential Project Mindful Leadership Model and how it relates to core leadership competencies.
  • Obtain the foundational skills to adopt a regular mindfulness practice.
  • Gain insights into one's own strengths and weaknesses of mental effectiveness.
  • Expand understanding of how to create ideal mental states for focus, creativity, and innovation.
  • Build greater competency in self-regulation and observation in order to increase one's conscious response vs autopilot response around feedback, change, and strategic focus.
  • Learn how mindfulness is needed to bridge the gap between "knowing and doing".
  • Dissect the neuroscience beneath resistance and the nature of change so that leaders can effectively manage themselves and their teams as in the midst of profound and accelerating change.


2) Practice: Mindfulness Skills at Work

  • Learn mindfulness-based skills for effective goal-setting, planning and priority setting in the context of strategic goals. See how mindfulness improves our ability to effectively manage importance vs urgency.
  • Understand the neuroscience behind the challenges of setting and achieving strategic goals.
  • Understand and manage the action addiction tendency of the brain (which works against strategic awareness, insight and focus).
  • Deal with various difficulties that get in the way of clarity and focus, in practice, at work and in life.
  • Deepen our daily mindfulness practice by gaining awareness beyond the focus of our breath.

3) Deeper Understanding: Emotional and Mental Management

  • Recognize the relationship between thoughts, emotions (feelings), impulses and actions.
  • Notice how we automatically label everything, moment by moment, as pleasant, unpleasant, good, bad, appropriate, not appropriate various other instant labels which drive our perception, emotion and behavior. 
  • Develop awareness in order to be able to anticipate automatic reactions, create optimal responses in order to achieve goals.
  • Learn to "respond" rather than react.
  • See emotions as simply physiological experiences which will, as they always do, pass.

  • Develop a mindful approach to change.

  • Practice mental strategies for dealing with and leading for change.
  • Reframe negative change narratives and build cognitive resilience.


5) Embodiment: Your Authentic and Mindful Leadership

  • Reflect on "who am I as a leader".
  • Discover core personal and leadership values.
  • Connect to deeper intentions – aligning heart and mind.
  • Connect to values – the key to authentic leadership.
  • Understand what gets in the way of authentic and mindful leadership.
  • Learn how to navigate difficulties with mindfulness and courage.

6) Moving Forward: Wrap-up and Action Learning Commitments

  • Set action learning commitments.
  • Reflect on "what will you do now" – key takeaways and how will they be used..
  • Develop and strengthen the "power of habit".
  • Introduce follow up emails – the "mindfulness challenge".
  • Next steps.

Registration

  • All registrations shall be made online before the session. For full-day sessions, payment also shall be made before the session.
  • For half-day sessions, AmCham Shanghai members are eligible to attend free of charge with Training Credit*; AmCham Shanghai members without Training Credit are eligible to attend at “Member Rate”; Employees who work at AmCham Shanghai member companies are eligible to attend at "Employee Rate".
  • For full-day sessions, AmCham Shanghai members are eligible to attend at “Member Rate”; Employees who work at AmCham Shanghai member companies are eligible to attend at “Employee Rate”; Non-members are eligible to attend at “Non-Member Rate”.
  • Limited spaces are available and attendance will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Members please bring your membership card and non-members bring your business card upon check-in at the training session.
Walk-in and Cancellation Policy
  • This session requires confirmation of attendance in advance. If you attend this session without prior registration, you will be charged an RMB50 "walk-in" fee as member and RMB100 as employee.
  • Cancellation: If you need to cancel your registration for a half-day session, please notify Ivette Corominas at (86 21) 6279 7119 ext. 5671 or email ivette.corominas@amcham-shanghai.org no less than 24 hours in advance. If you need to cancel your registration for a full-day session, please notify Ivette Corominas at least two weeks prior to the session for a full refund. Cancellation made within two weeks before the session will not be refundable.
  • To ensure that you have a seat, please come to the session on time. Open seats will be released to other guests 15 minutes after the session starts.
