China was labeled the factory of the world and the master of fakes, a country incapable of creating its own original work, not long ago.


In recent years, however, the tune has changed. In 2016, Wired magazine ran a cover story advising the world to learn from Lei Jun, the founder of XiaoMi, an innovative tech company. China's score on the Global Innovation Index (GII) continues to climb and more prestigious bodies, such as Nobel, Pritzker, and Hugo, are recognizing China's contributions to the arts; yet the Global Creativity Index gives China low scores. Even Chinese nationals are skeptical of creativity in China. What is holding China back from becoming a truly creative powerhouse?


Milo Chao will present what he's learned so far from his podcast interviews with some of the most interesting creators in China – from authors, to architects, to artists. In the podcast, Milo and co-host, Cao Jinxing ask provocative questions that get to the heart of their guests' creative origins, influences, and aspirations.


Milo will also present some compelling academic research conducted on creativity in China to provide context to and substantiation for these qualitative findings. He will conclude with several evidence-based tools we all can employ to exercise and stretch our own creative muscle.


Paul Lin, Chair of the Marketing Committee, will host this exciting showcase with Milo.
